As I posted earlier, some of my favorite beers from my Beer Culture class are styles that I had never tried before and a few that I had. The second half of the semester we tasted beers from all over the globe including Germany, Belgium, England, Philadelphia, Czech Republic, and Bavaria.

In an earlier post, I spoke about how one of my favorite beer styles is a Berliner Weisse. The guys over at Creature Comforts have really created a delicious beer called Athena. It is a yellow-orange hazy beer with a sour aroma and taste. This beer tastes somewhat bready due to it being a wheat-based style beer. At first, this beer hit me like a warhead on wheat steroids but ultimately the more I drank the more I loved it. Also, anything from Creature Comforts is friggin’ delicious!

Kopparberg Perry! Check out the color and the label!

This is something that I have never even HEARD of! This type of cider is called Perry and was genuinely refreshing. This specific cider is from Sweden and was such a palate cleanser. I would almost suggest that someone have this cider in between meals. There really isn’t much to say about this beverage other than, it smells like pear, it tastes like pears, and is a great suggestion for a summer day. It specifically reminded me of Harry and David Pears that my parents get around Christmas time. That juiciness in a glass is Kopparberg in a few words.

Another Georgia favorite of mine would be Orpheus Brewing’s Over and Over. It is a Pineapple Sour Ale with an SRM (Standard Reference Measurement) of a light straw color, light retention, estery aroma, pretty sour to the nose, a slightly malty/yeasty aftertaste, heavier to the mouthfeel and the pineapple comes out the more you drink it.

I have personally found these beers at my local Total Wine and if you come across them, pick them up and give them a try!
