Over the weekend I visited Scofflaw Brewing in Atlanta, Georgia. I remember the first time I had Scofflaw’s Basement IPA. I was getting ready for my bocce league game on a Tuesday, stopped by Hop City In Krog Street Market, they were out of whatever I wanted so they suggested Scofflaw Basement IPA in a small growler, and I went on my merry way. My life changed that day…for the better.
This brewery makes a bunch of different IPAs as its main style but they also incorporate stouts and the like into its tasting room. I was visiting this particular weekend with a group of friends and honestly had a three beer limit for myself because I knew how delicious Scofflaw’s beers are.
The first beer was the Scofflaw Basement IPA POG (infused with passionfruit, orange, and guava). This beer is already hoppy AF, which the infusion of citrus flavors only increased the amount of citrusy goodness in the beer. This beer has an ABV of 7.5% and will probably make you forget how citrusy it is but I honestly can say that it is a great beer.
My second and third beer was the Double Jeopardy, which is an Imperial IPA and lives up to the name. I learned during class that a double IPA only means that has double the hops (nothing fancy other than increased aroma, bitterness and flavor). This beer was served in a smaller glass and had a thicker head/more retention than the others. Another thing to mention is that almost all of the Scofflaw’s beers are over 7%. ABV However, this beer, in particular, has an ABV of 10% and an IBU of 55.
Note: According to the Miriam-Webster Dictionary, a scofflaw is, "a person who flouts the law, especially by failing to comply with a law that is difficult to enforce effectively."
